The 12 Dogs Of Christmas

Our Blog is doing the 12 Dogs Of Christmas, featuring some of the most under rated LOYAL adoptees, who have been sitting crossing their paws waiting for a furever home to come their way!!! All dogs posted are up for adoption and have no flaws, except maybe they are a little camera shy at times :)

One the first day of Christmas I saw a beautiful dog ...

One Movie Star Beagle:
Greta Garbo
Everyone meet the utterly, devastatingly gorgeous Greta Garbo. Greta is a beautiful beagle who came into rescue, from a less then hollywood life. With her hollywood sultry eyes she will have you on the couch rubbing her belly and ears in NO time! She received her name because she is so hollywood, a classy girl, looking for a classy home to call her very home! Don't let her looks fool you though, she's very quiet and easy going perhaps why so many have missed this gem. She has been sitting in rescue, lounging on the couch just wondering when her "agent" will call with a new role: a forever family!

Likes
Lying on the couch
Cuddling in the bed
Snuggling under the covers
Being pampered

Dislikes
Pre-madonna cats with big attitudes!!!

Can you see the resemblence? Look at those eyes!!

The Only LOYAL Cat Around

LOYAL has one cat who needs a home...

This cat's name is Church - that's right, like the holy place.

She is a brown and black tabby about two years old spayed female with a medium coat. She was thrown from a vehicle in Peterborough just before Christmas in 2007. Her tail has been broken in two different spots. She has turned in to a sweet gentle loving cat. At first she would not even let me touch her. She was unfamiliar to love. Someone has been awfully mean to her in her past. She is cute but has a razor tongue when she gives kisses. She likes to sleep in bed and is totally FOOD motivated in life. : ) A regal and affectionate girl. She had a difficult life before rescue, and is missing part of her tail as a result. She is very scared in new situations, but once she settles in she is a wonderful, affectionate kitty. And as you can see she is gorgeous too.

Adoption Fee: $135.00

Special Boy Helps Out In A Special Way!

Mason is one of the youngest volunteers for LOYAL. He helps on transports with dogs and fostering alongside his dedicated parents.

This year for Mason's 11th Birthday instead of gifts he asked for donations to LOYAL to help the puppy mill victims. Mason raised $300 for the dogs! Please read his amazing story below!

We started with Loyal rescue as most people do , we adopted a great dog.We had two already , and My son mason wanted a dog for him.So we contacted Loyal , went to visit a few dogs at their foster homes , but done seemed a good fit for us.The we saw Wyatt on the web site.We drove to TO to see him along with another dog.I have to admit , I was leading towards the other one.But when we got there, Wyatt jumped in Mason's lap and went to sleep. That sealed the deal!He has slept with Mason ever sense.

Our two rescues are such great dogs.It is hard to believe that no one wanted them.We decided that we wanted to help. The more we found out about the rescue organization , and the things that these poor dogs have gone through , it broke out hearts and made us mad.We decided to start with helping in the transports that happen on the weekends.Mason would come with me and wouldn't let me put the dogs in crates. He was covered in drool and hair and loved every minute of it.Then the two big mill busts on Montreal happened. It was hard for me to explain to Mason what was happening.he couldn't understand what someone would not love their dogs to death like we do.We are now a foster home and I help with the phone screening and home visits.
When it was time for his birthday , I asked what he wanted.he wasn't sure , and I said "do you really need more gifts"That's when he decided to ask for donations for Loyal. He even included Grammy and Grampy in his list. The response from his friends, and their parents, was great.Everyone wanted to help.He ended up raising $300..One of his friends who is having his birthday in December is going to ask for donations for Sick Kids hospital.
We are very proud of him , and I think he is proud of himself.

Help Tyga!!!!

Tyga, our precious little Lhasa Apso had to recently have knee surgery called a cruciate repair. You can donate via paypal using the chip in on the side of this blog!

This unfortunately is major surgery and will require six to eight weeks of bed rest and very little exercise. The surgery was $1516.44 to keep the little guy out of pain and walking. If you can chip in even a few dollars, we would be very grateful for your kindness, as I'm sure Tyga would as well.

More info on TYGA....

Age: 4 years young
Sex: M
Weight: 27lbs
Breed: Lhasa Apso
Foster Home Location: Welland, ON
Adoption Fee: $350
Temperament: Sweet little man, a little shy!!
Dogs: Yes of similar size and would need proper introduction
Cats: No
Kids: No small kids, but older YES!!

And now, a few words from me:
My name is Tyga, and I'm a 4 year old, 27lb, beautiful Lhasa Apso boy. I am looking for new guardians who will commit to taking care of me for the next 10-15 years. I have been a loyal and wonderful companion to my family. Unfortunately I am not comfortable sharing a home with small children. I'm a pretty happy go lucky guy, but am a bit apprehensive when confronted with new people and situations, and I am hoping to find a home where my new people will be keen on helping me work on these things. It's a good thing I'm really food motivated!

My mom and dad are really sad that they have to find a new home for me, they have taken very good care of me, and love me very much. I am so happy to see them when they come home from work. I love to sit on the sofa, and get a good rub, or even better a nice massage. I love to cuddle and relax! I just love my Nylabones too. Being a Lhasa, I will let you know when someone approaches the house. I currently live with another dog, and perhaps would like share my new digs with another pooch if the chemistry is there. If my new people worked part time, or even better worked from home would be fantastic. A home without cats would probably be good, since I have never been exposed to them.

Like all Lhasas, I respond well to positive training methods. Did I mention I was very food motivated? :) If you think I'm the guy for you, fill out an application so we can talk!

Feature Dog - Gentle Jerry!

Help Gentle Jerry Find A Home!Jerry a smart affectionate one year old 10lb, Pomeranian has been waiting a long time for his forever home

Jerry is a one year old gentle, smart and happy go lucky 10lb Pomeranian. He has the cutest freckled face. He is neutered and up to date with his shots and in great health! He gets along great with other dogs in and around his own size (he's a little afraid of the super big dogs!), and he does great with the 7 & 8 year old children he lives with. He knows several commands including sit and stay! His gentle nature would also make him a match for a home with the feline kind.

Jerry's brother Benny was already adopted and Jerry just sits and waits for his forever home to come and find him - he doesn't understand why his brother was adopted so quickly and adopters just look him over. He wants so badly to be in a forever home! It's been almost a year now and no one has shown interest in him. He's smart, gentle, happy and handsome - what more is there to not want in a dog?

Jerry is well trained and can spend up to 5 hours on his own. So ideally someone who comes home for lunch of has a schedule where they won't be out for more then 5 hours at a time.

After 8 months in foster, don't you think this handsome, gentle affectionate boy deserves a forever home? If you are interested please visit our website and fill out an application www.loyalrescue.com

Puppy Mill Bust - We Need Your Help!

LOYAL has been working very hard at helping victims of the recent puppy mill busts in Quebec. Some of the images and videos below are from the most recent puppy mill, while other are from past puppy mill breaks all across North America. Puppy mills exist in almost every province and state within North America. Puppy mills are defined as:

"...sometimes known as puppy farms, are large-scale dog breeding facilities that operate under substandard breeding conditions. The term can be applied to operations involving other animals irresponsibly bred for profit, e.g. "kitty mills." Animals that have been produced in mills are most commonly sold at pet stores to unsuspecting consumers. Irresponsible breeding on a smaller scale is referred to as backyard breeding."

While a legal battle ensues between the puppy mill owner and the Montreal SPCA LOYAL has offered a safe haven for these animals to experience food, shelter, relaxation and most of all LOVE. We desperately need donations to support the overwhelming influx that we have taken in. Please pass this blog around to compassionate family and friends as not only a means to support these victims, but to remind people the damage and cruelty of irresponsible breeding.

To see video below of where some of these dogs came from:

Riley is a puppy mill survivor...

"Trina wanted to say hello too !! She came to Loyal Rescue from a Missouri vet who was supposed to put she and her 4 siblings( from a puppy mill..) to sleep and refused ! Instead he vetted them and allowed them to come to rescue ! Trina was returned from an adoptive home
due to her constant nasal drainage and infections....upon investigations and many trips to the Small Animal Clinic in Guelph, .it was determined by an MRI that she has been smashed in the face at the mill and all the nasal bones and turbinates were fractured and displaced and thus could never have normal nasal drainage....so she constantly snorkles...but she is so adorable and cuddly, that I could not resist keeping her...she loves all dogs and is a great welcomer to all her new foster friends..she never stops wagging her tail and truly loves life !"

Casper a recent mill survivor

"Mickey Mouse [pictured below] came from a puppymill. He had broken teeth from trying to bite his way out of his crate. He had no muscle tone in his hind legs because he never had any exercise. The millers dumped him when he was 10 years old. He was angry, trusted no one. He was given a week to live by my veterinarian. I had him for 7 years and loved him dearly. He eventually learned to trust and to love me. He was a dear old soul."

Back to Montreal!!!

Loyal President pictured holding the large matte taken off puppy mill rescue. This puppy was one of 270 rescued from vile puppy mills in Montreal in early October disbursed between the SPCA and private rescues like LOYAL. Stay tuned for pictures of the new LOYAL dogs.

On Sunday, October 12th, I will be returning to Montreal for
just 24 hours. I will help as much as I can with the
remaining dogs at the temporary shelter, then load up at
least 25 dogs into the rental van and return to Ontario.
The dogs will be disbursed to various rescues, everything
from yorkies to a great dane.

The rental van cost is $390 (it's a Sprinter - the van that
you can stand up straight in) and gas is estimated to be at
least $250. If you can help with this in any way, please us
the ChipIn on this page. It is gratefully appreciated.

The dogs coming back have all been at the emergency shelter
for about 10 days now. They are ready to have some time to
socialize with other dogs and learn to trust humans. Some
will come out of their shell quicker than others, that's
just the way mill dogs are.

We took in Honey, a Cavalier King Charles, from the first
puppy mill bust and she's been in foster care over a week
now. Still she wont walk in open spaces but if she must go
down a hall, she plasters herself to the wall and walks
along it.

Chester, now called Henry, is doing much much better. He's
running and playing with the other foster dogs right now and
he's actually got peach fuzz growing on his back. He will
be neutered when he's medically ready.

Montreal Puppy Mill Bust

We returned from 9 days in Montreal, helping UAN (United Animal Nations) with the two recent puppy mill busts there. For details, please read: http://www.uan.org/index.cfm?navid=518 and if your stomach can handle it, have a look at this video: https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/donate.aspx?EventID=22554&LangPref=en-CA

In total, 270 dogs, seven cats and one bunny were removed from these mills and are on their way to a new and much better life. LOYAL Rescue has offered to take in 13 of the dogs. Two have arrived already and the remaining will come in over the next week to 10 days. The two that are already here will require considerable attention prior to adoption. Both are very scared and timid and Henry (formerly Chester) is almost bald from a skin condition.

Still to arrive are four yorkies, an english bulldog, what appears to be a few maltipoo's, a shih tzu and some toy poodles. Many of these dogs will need ongoing vetting to get them to an adoptable state so if you're in a position to help financially, we would really appreciate it, but if you're not, please consider fostering. The more foster homes we have, the more dogs we can save.

As tough as this mill bust was to see personally (yes, I physically was at the second bust), these dogs are on the road to recovery and will have nothing but the best going forward.
